Barbecue Chicken.

One of my all time favorite meals is barbecue chicken. I could count on my mom making this a couple times a month because I enjoyed it so much. And now, in my own home, I continue to make it regularly.

Not only is it tasty, but it's very simple. Trust me, you'll never buy commercial BBQ sauce again.

First get your ingredients together.

In a saucepan, combine equal parts butter, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, vinegar, and mustard. I do about a tablespoon.

Add your ketchup - between 1/2 c. to 1 c. depending on how much sauce you need.

Over low heat, stir ingredients together until well blended.

Yum. It's already looking good.

Now add your seasonings - I added salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and dried onion. Just add what suits your taste.

Blend in your seasonings.

Now I typically make barbecue chicken, but you could add the barbecue sauce to whatever you choose - pork, beef brisket, turkey, etc. Growing up, it was always chicken thighs, so that's what I do. I enjoy the dark meat of chicken. I think it has a lot of flavor and is more moist. If you think dark meat is too fattening, then go for white. I'll stick to the dark. :)

Place your chicken in a skillet on medium/high heat.

Pour the sauce over the chicken (if you choose to grill your meat of choice, baste it periodically with the sauce, but be careful because the sugars in the sauce will burn).

Allow the chicken to cook thoroughly on both sides, flipping halfway through. I'd say you need about 6-7 minutes per side, but don't quote me on that one. ;)

And that's it! You have your very own delicious barbecue chicken to devour. Messy hands and mouths are acceptable... and expected.

Enjoy.

  2. Have you ever tried doing the same thing but in a slow cooker? Making your own sauce that you made and then letting it cook in the crockpot? I'd be curious how it turns out!?

  3. This looks delicious and much easier than the recipe that I just posted. And yes, you can do it in the crockpot with chicken breasts. When ready to serve, shred chicken breasts with forks while still in crockpot and serve as shredded barbecue chicken on rolls with cole slaw. Super simple and delicious.
